The Thing I Never Told You

Image
The Thing I Never Told You I have kept this secret for eleven years. Eleven years of laughing with you at parties, of being the first person you called when things went wrong, of sitting across from you at that small suya spot on Allen Avenue where we always ordered the same thing. Eleven years of knowing that the version of me you loved was built, in part, on a lie. Let me start from the beginning. Chidi and I met in 2009 at a cramped cybercafé in Surulere. They never failed to let him understand that the supreme God is their father whose existence is evident in the wonders seen in creation and that he really loves and  cares about them.  They went further to make him understand that God sees everything we do and shows interest in them. And that he doesn't like disobedient children. Danny began to love what he learned about God  as he grew up. This was evident in his unalloyed obedience to his parents. His love for  God  grew stronger and  he always talked to his friends and others about him and the things he has done and will do in the future for them.  However, some of his friends paid attention to him  and began to love God too while others put up  nonchalant attitudes ...
