The Thing I Never Told You

The Thing I Never Told You I have kept this secret for eleven years. Eleven years of laughing with you at parties, of being the first person you called when things went wrong, of sitting across from you at that small suya spot on Allen Avenue where we always ordered the same thing. Eleven years of knowing that the version of me you loved was built, in part, on a lie. Let me start from the beginning. Chidi and I met in 2009 at a cramped cybercafé in Surulere. We were both second-year students at UNILAG, both broke, both pretending we weren't. He was printing an assignment he hadn't started yet, and I was watching him spiral into quiet panic, and something about that made me laugh. Not at him — just at the whole situation. The absurdity of it. He looked at me, and then he laughed too, and that was it. That fast. That simple. By our final year, Chidi was the person I trusted most in the world. More than my brothers. More, honestly, than myself. In 2013, we both applied ...

Interesting Dialogue...Education is the Key

A dialogue between a father and son titled:

Education is the Key

**Father:** John my son, I want you to go back to school.

**John:** No daddy, I don't want to go back to school. By the way, why is this school issue so important to you?

** Father:** School is very important to me my son because education is the key.

**John:** Haha, daddy did you just say that education is the key?

**Father:** Yes my son, education is the key.

**John:** Daddy, you and I know that all the doors in this your house have their keys with spare ones. So which other key are you talking about?

**Father:** Yes, I know that my son. But I want you to understand that I am not talking about the key to a physical door.

**John:** What do you mean then?

**Father:** Now listen to me very attentively. Education is the key to success in life. Success is a treasure that is well secured with a very strong padlock. The key that you need to unlock it is sound education.

**John:** Hmm! So, where is this treasure that is well secured with a heavy padlock located?

**Father:** That's a good question my son. Listen, you cannot locate this treasure until you commit yourself to education. It is education that will show you the way to success.

**John:** Hmm! I will like to locate this treasure. Okay, I will go back to school as you have advised me to do.

**Father:** That's my son! Ehn, one more thing. People who are lazy and morally bankrupt in the course of searching for success will never locate it. So as you go back to school, work hard, live a good life and take your studies seriously.

**John:** Thank you daddy! I've heard you. I promise to bring home the treasure and make you proud.

**Father:** You're welcome my son! I wish you all the best.
