The Thing I Never Told You

The Thing I Never Told You I have kept this secret for eleven years. Eleven years of laughing with you at parties, of being the first person you called when things went wrong, of sitting across from you at that small suya spot on Allen Avenue where we always ordered the same thing. Eleven years of knowing that the version of me you loved was built, in part, on a lie. Let me start from the beginning. Chidi and I met in 2009 at a cramped cybercafé in Surulere. We were both second-year students at UNILAG, both broke, both pretending we weren't. He was printing an assignment he hadn't started yet, and I was watching him spiral into quiet panic, and something about that made me laugh. Not at him — just at the whole situation. The absurdity of it. He looked at me, and then he laughed too, and that was it. That fast. That simple. By our final year, Chidi was the person I trusted most in the world. More than my brothers. More, honestly, than myself. In 2013, we both applied ...

You too are a Sinner

You can't call down fire on every person who offends you and still expect me to believe that you're a Christian. Which christ are you following? It can't be the Jesus I know. The character of Jesus Christ, the one you claim to be his follower, as revealed in 1 Peter 2:21-23 exposes you as a liar.

Understand that the value of forgiveness is priceless.
Jesus makes us to understand that God can only forgive us our trespasses if we also forgive others when they wrong us. Matthew 6:14-15.

Just stop and think. Can you recall the number of times that you've sinned against God, yet he allows you to continue living? Where do you think you would be by now if that's how God rains down fire on those who offends him?

Being a christian is not just a matter of putting on nice wears and attending and participating in every church activities. If you lack the most important quality that fosters harmony among humanity, then your claim as a christian is null and void.

Love is that essential quality that defines a true christian. And it is love that will motivate you to forgive others when they offend you. Again, forgiveness fosters harmony.

If you're in the habit of calling down fire on your offenders, please do all you can to kick the habit.

Remember that you too are a sinner. And that you sometimes offend the most powerful being–God, who has the authority to snuff life out of you in less than a second, yet he forgives you.

Make it a matter of prayer that you be able to control yourself when someone steps on your toes. Let love overrule every negative emotions that might well up in you.

I hope someone finds value in this piece of article.

Thank you for your audience.
